PRESIDENT'S CORNER

DECEMBER 2002

This year is over, flying with skies is the way to go to keep those fingers limber for the coming spring.  Simulators are neat, but nothing replaces the real thing.

2002 has been an active and very exciting year and we finished it with a GREAT banquet held at the Elks Lodge in Westbrook.   Fifty-Four people came and enjoyed a delicious meal served family style and frankly, those of you who decided not to attend missed a terrific evening of war stories, kidding around, dancing, drinking, eating too much, and most of all the opportunity to build on friendships within our membership.

You all know I have been asked to serve as Club President for another year.  I will do this with honor and integrity.  We have the pleasure of having Diane Carpio as our 2003 Secretary and we can count on her to continue to do

more for our club then we could possibly ask of her.  Ron Czikowsky will serve as our Treasurer for the 3rd or 4th time and again we can trust Ron to squeeze every penny just like it was his own.  Luis Carpio will serve as our Vice President for 2003 and I hope this is a warm up to take over the Presidency in 2004.  Bernie Liskov is our Newsletter editor and happiest person is Diane .  I personally want to thank Bernie for taking this responsibility and I hope we can get more of you to take your newsletter on line.  Rich Ippolito  will be helping us out by setting up a newsletter website that will be easily accessible and linked to the RC Propbuster site.  You will receive an e-mail with financial information and a link to click that will bring you to the newsletter.  You will be able to read it on line, print it out, download it or ignore it.  This should solve the problem many of you have had downloading loading the newsletter and then opening it.  Jack Holmgren is our 2003 Field Marshall and will be in charge of the April Field Maintenance weekend.  We have tentatively scheduled it for April 19th but it will be Jack ’s final decision.  Bob Boudreau returns as our Safety Officer and without a doubt he will continue to do an excellent job.  Bob has recovered from tendonitis with the help of surgery, so you will be seeing lots of him at the field in 2003.  Lester Smith and Dennis Duplice were elected to our Board of Directors and Brian Jolicoeur & Phil Norman round out the Board.

I am repeating myself from last months President’s corner, but if you want a better Club, GET INVOLVED, don’t sit back and let others do the work, pitch in and volunteer to help.  Become an officer, make suggestions to improve our position and visibility in the community, and look for community projects that can bring our great hobby to all ages.  Today our Children spend too much time in front of the TV, playing games on the computer & Internet, or experimenting with drugs.  We can help change that by getting involved with the schools, neighborhoods and the towns and cities where we live.

A special thanks to Charlie Lewis for graciously hosting our newsletter on his website.  We will discuss and study the need for a better Club website that can handle more pictures as well as the newsletter but we are not going to rush into this.  We want to see how the new newsletter format works out, how much space we really need for our RC Propbusters site, and the overall interest of our members.

I also included a calendar of events of 2003, some dates may change but basically this is the best information and suggestions I have at this time.

Until Next time, Good Flying,

  Fred
