PRESIDENT'S CORNER

 OCTOBER, 2003

Our flying season is rapidly approaching glove weather. Flying in snow is lots of fun, and if you have a float plane, floats    also work well on snow.

This year, we held many events as follows;

1. NE RC Combat Great fun but poor attendance due to what appeared to be bad weathe, but in fact it was a agreat weather day. Sorry to say we will not hold this event again. I wish more of you were interested in giving this competition a try, you might like it.

1. Beringer Memorial. Fair turnout with fair weather. The club made money on this event but it would be nice to see a larger attendance. Next year we should hold this event in early June to eliminate the competition of Quantset Point and Winding Brook.

2. Henry Struck Memorial. Once again this was a successful event with a great turnout and great wearther. It is very clear that electric has come into its own and this event will grow next year. We shold consider making this a Sunday event and we should consider making this a 2 day event with some competion such as the pilots chice award, the most unusal plane, and best overall .plane.

3. Neighborhood Fun Fly. Good weather, great turnout, and lot’s of flying on buddy boxes with kids and adults. The importance of this event cannot be stressed enough. It generates new members, provides good PR with the people in South Eastern CT and next year we need to make this event the best ever with more attendance of the local people.

4. Heli Fun Fly. Inspite of terrible weather, looks like Charlie lewis pulled it off again with decent attendance and some great f;lying in absollutely awful weather, but Sunday was a washout. With some good weather forecasted I think this could be out biggest money maker.

5. Club Fun Fly. After 2 postponements due to poor weather, we got this event competed on Oct 5th. About 12 members flew in windy weather and had a great time. 18 people bought raffle tickets and the winner of a Modeltech Magic Extra with Supertiger 45 was Lou Carpio. Hope to see this one in the air this season.

This was a tough weather season but many new members managed to solo in spite of that problem and many new models made their first hop and some made their last. I observed many of our members are now working hard to master 3D flying and some our doing exceptionally well.

I for one am looking forward to seeing some models of the month come to the meeting next year., so start your winter projects and bring in your handy work to show off.

Let’s hope we have a good Fall and a mild Winter so we can maintain our skills in actual flight as opposed to real flight.

Until Next time, Good Flying,

Fred
